About Calotis dentex R.Br.
Calotis dentex R.Br. is an upright, perennial, multi-branched understory shrub that reaches up to 80 cm (31 in) in height. It has brown stems that are either smooth or slightly hairy. Its stem leaves (cauline leaves) are lance to oblong-shaped, measuring 2โ9 cm (0.79โ3.54 in) long and 4โ11 mm (0.16โ0.43 in) wide. These leaves are sessile, bear occasional hairs, and have variable margins that may be lobed, toothed, or sometimes entire. Flowers are most often white, occasionally mauve, and grow on stalks up to 5 cm (2.0 in) long. Individual flower heads are 7โ13 mm (0.28โ0.51 in) in diameter, borne either singly or in loose cymes from leaf axils, and have a yellow central disc 5โ10 mm (0.20โ0.39 in) across. Flowering takes place between October and April. The fruit is a flattened, reddish-brown cypsela with several spines that are 4โ6 mm (0.16โ0.24 in) long. This species, commonly called white burr-daisy, grows mostly on clay soils in grasslands and open forests in New South Wales and Queensland.
