Calosoma planicolle is a species of ground beetle belonging to the subfamily Carabinae. It was first described by Maximilien Chaudoir in 1869. This species occurs in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa. Adult individuals of Calosoma planicolle grow to between 30 and 40 millimeters in length and have a glossy black coloration.
