About Calochortus leichtlinii Hook.f.

Calochortus leichtlinii is a perennial herb that grows an erect, unbranched stem reaching up to 60 centimeters in height. Its single basal leaf is 10 to 15 centimeters long, and it withers by the time the plant begins flowering. The inflorescence forms a loose cluster holding 1 to 5 erect, bell-shaped flowers. Each flower has three petals that measure 1 to 4 centimeters long. Petal color ranges from white to pinkish or dull blue, marked with yellow and dark red or black spots, and they are covered in hairs at their bases. The color pattern of this species varies widely across different regional and local populations. After flowering, it produces a narrow capsule fruit that can grow up to 6 centimeters long.
