About Callopistria maillardi (Guenée, 1862)
This moth species, Callopistria maillardi, has a wingspan of approximately 40 mm. Males have three spatulate-shaped hairs on the curved portion of their antennae. Their legs are very densely covered with long hair. The head and thorax are clothed with dark ferrugineous (rust-red) and white hairs. The abdomen is paler, and bears ferrous-colored dorsal tufts. The forewings are heavily varied with reddish tones; the veins and lines on the forewings are reddish, and the antemedial line is more angled. A crenulate (notched) black medial line is present on the forewings. On the ventral side of the hindwings, the postmedial line is more strongly crenulate. In terms of ecology, the larvae of Callopistria maillardi feed on Adiantum, Lygodium, Pellaea, Nephrolepis biserrata, and Asplenium nidus.
