About Callopistria juventina (Stoll, 1782)
This species is currently classified as Callopistria juventina (Stoll, 1782), and was previously referred to under the synonyms E. juventina Cram., purpureofasciata Piller, lagopus Esp., pteridis F., and formosissimalis Hbn. For the typical form, forewings are olive brown, with partial black shading. Veins are pale, and become rosy and cream colored towards the termen. The inner and outer lines are double, finely black, filled with rosy color and followed by rosy bands; the band beyond the outer line is broad. Both lines start on the costa as white oblique strigae located before the subcostal angulation. Stigmata are olive brown with a rosy tinge, and have white annuli that are more prominent on the reniform stigma, forming a hook-like shape at the outer lower extremity. A rosy streak sometimes appears on the submedian fold beyond the very indistinct claviform stigma. The subterminal line is yellowish white, forming oblique streaks above veins 6 and 7, followed by a pale apical patch. It is angled inwards above vein 5, acutely angled outwards at vein 4, and becomes indistinct beyond that point. A lunulate yellowish white line runs before the termen; the terminal area is rosy. The fringe is chequered with ochreous and dark olive brown. Hindwings are ochreous, suffused with pale fuscous, and have a broad dark terminal border, an outer line, and a cell spot. The Japanese form obscura Btlr. is duller than the typical form, with all rosy tints greatly reduced in both extent and brilliancy. The larva is green, with whitish or yellowish oblique lunular subdorsal markings, and a yellowish white lateral line. All yellowish markings are sometimes edged with pink, and the head is reddish. The wingspan of this species measures 34–38 mm.
