About Callitris columellaris F.Muell.
Callitris columellaris F.Muell. is a small evergreen tree that typically reaches 4โ12 m in height, rarely growing as tall as 20 m. Its trunk can grow up to 50 cm in diameter, and it has deeply furrowed bark. The leaves are scale-like, measuring 2โ6 mm long and 0.5 mm broad. They are arranged in decussate whorls of three on very slender shoots that are 0.7โ1 mm in diameter. The cones are globose, 1โ2 cm in diameter, and have six triangular scales; these scales open at maturity to release the tree's seeds. Author Eric Rolls provided the following description of pollination in C. columellaris: "At pollination time when hundreds of cones go off together with a sharp crack and spurt brown pollen a metre into the air, the whole tree shivers."
