About Calligonum comosum L'Hér.

Calligonum comosum, commonly known as the fire bush, arta, or abal, is a species of flowering plant in the Polygonaceae family. It grows to roughly 1.2 metres (4 feet) tall, and produces green branches that split from the main stem in a pattern resembling the wisps of a broom. This plant has high sugar and nitrogen content. It is native to the Sahara, Socotra, the Arabian Peninsula, and regions of the Middle East, extending east to Pakistan and the Rajasthan desert in western India. Its flowers can be eaten fresh. It is used for stabilizing sand dunes, as livestock forage, as smokeless firewood, and as an indicator of fresh water.
