About Callicarpa acuminata Kunth
Callicarpa acuminata Kunth is a species of beautyberry native to Latin America, ranging from Mexico to Bolivia. Unlike other species in the Callicarpa genus, C. acuminata produces small berry-like fruits. These fruits are typically dark-purple or dark blue-purple, and they can occasionally be white. The species produces white flower blooms. Its fruits grow in tight clumps that sometimes resemble grapes. Callicarpa acuminata is cultivated as a garden tree. Three varieties of the species are currently recognized. Callicarpa acuminata var. acuminata has a distribution from Mexico to Bolivia. Callicarpa acuminata var. argutidentata Moldenke is found in Tamaulipas and Honduras. Callicarpa acuminata var. pringlei (Briq.) Moldenke grows in eastern Mexico, from Tamaulipas to Chiapas.
