About Calisto herophile Hübner, 1823

Calisto herophile Hübner, 1823 is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. This species is endemic to Cuba and the Bahamas. In Cuba, Calisto herophile can occupy a wide range of habitats, from suburban areas near major cities to the edges of evergreen forests and rainforests, at altitudes up to 1,100 meters. All of the habitats it occupies are disturbed to some degree. For male individuals of this species, forewings measure between 14 and 19 millimeters in length. For females, forewings measure between 17 and 21 millimeters in length. Adult Calisto herophile can be found year-round across the whole of Cuba. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of different grasses.
