About Caligo teucer (Linnaeus, 1758)

Caligo teucer, commonly known as the Teucer owl butterfly, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. It was originally described by Carl Linnaeus in the 10th edition of Systema Naturae, published in 1758. This species can be found across the region from Colombia and Venezuela, extending south to Bolivia and Paraguay. Its natural habitat includes rainforests and cloudforests, occurring at altitudes between 400 and 1,400 meters. The adult wingspan measures approximately 100 mm. The larvae of Caligo teucer feed on plant species from the genera Heliconia and Musa.
