About Calectasia intermedia Sond.
Calectasia intermedia is a rhizomatous perennial undershrub that reaches an approximate height of 65 cm (25.5 in). Its horizontal rhizome grows around 50 cm (19.5 in) long, is buried 7โ10 cm (3โ4 in) deep, and the species has no stilt roots. Stems produce many side branches, and bear sparsely hairy leaves. Each leaf measures approximately 5.7โ16.8 mm long by 0.5โ0.8 mm wide (0.2โ0.7 in ร 0.02โ0.03 in), and tapers to a short, sharp point at the tip. The base of the flower's tepals, commonly referred to as petals, form a tube 10.5โ11.6 mm (0.41โ0.46 in) long. The outer portions of the tepals spread outward to form a blue, papery star-shaped pattern that does not fade as it ages. At the center of this star, six yellow stamens are arranged into a tube that changes to orange-brown as it ages. A thin style extends out past the stamens. This species flowers between September and October. C. intermedia is distributed from Bordertown in the far south-eastern corner of South Australia, including within Calectasia Conservation Park, eastward to the Grampians and Little Desert in south-western Victoria. It grows in open Eucalyptus woodland on sandy soil, and also in heath. Its distribution is scattered as a result of habitat clearing, but it is not considered to be at risk.
