About Calamagrostis stricta (Timm) Koeler
Calamagrostis stricta (Timm) Koeler is a perennial, caespitose grass species that grows with elongated rhizomes. Its erect culms reach 30โ100 centimetres (12โ39 in) in length. The leaf sheaths are keelless and have a glabrous surface. Leaf blades measure 30โ60 centimetres (12โ24 in) by 1.5โ5 millimetres (0.059โ0.197 in), and are flat, stiff, and ribbed, with a pubescent surface, scaberulous margins, and a filiform apex. The inflorescence is a lanceolate panicle that measures 7โ20 centimetres (2.8โ7.9 in) by 1โ3 centimetres (0.39โ1.18 in) in diameter. The main panicle branches are appressed and 3โ6 centimetres (1.2โ2.4 in) long, while other panicle branches are terete and scabrous. This species occurs in wetlands across Eurasia, including Siberia, and extends into Mongolia and China. It is also common in Canada and the United States, where it may have been introduced.
