Calamagrostis breviligulata (Fernald) Saarela is a newly combined species. Its basionym is Ammophila breviligulata Fernald, which was described in Rhodora 22(256): 71 in 1920. The type specimen was collected on August 27, 1902, by C.H. Bissell in Milford, Connecticut, USA. The holotype is stored at GH! [GH00023024], and the isotype is at US! [US - 863726 barcode 00478957].
