About Calamagrostis arundinacea (L.) Roth
Calamagrostis arundinacea (L.) Roth is a perennial tufted grass species that grows with short rhizomes. Its culms are erect and measure 60โ150 centimetres (24โ59 inches) in length. Each leaf bears a truncate, obtuse ligule that is 2โ4 millimetres (0.08โ0.16 inches) long. The leaf blades are 8โ50 millimetres (0.3โ2.0 inches) long and 1.8โ10 millimetres (0.07โ0.39 inches) wide; they are hairless, have a scabrous surface, and end in an attenuate apex. The inflorescence is an open, continuous, lanceolate panicle that is 8โ18 cm (3.1โ7.1 in) long by 1โ4 cm (0.4โ1.6 in) wide, and it is borne on a scaberulous peduncle. The flowers have two lodicules, two stigmas, and three anthers that measure 2.4โ2.7 mm (0.09โ0.11 in) long. This species produces fruit in the form of a caryopsis with an extra pericarp.
