About Caenurgia chloropha Hübner, 1818

Caenurgia chloropha, commonly called the vetch looper moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. Jacob Hübner first formally described this species in 1818. This moth is native to the southeastern United States, northern Mexico, and Cuba. Stray individuals can be found as far north as southern Ontario. The wingspan of adult vetch looper moths measures between approximately 27 and 36 mm. This species produces two or more generations each year, and adult moths are active in flight from April through October. The larvae of Caenurgia chloropha feed on vetch and other types of legumes. Fully developed larvae can be found starting in May.
