About Butyriboletus persolidus D.Arora & J.L.Frank

Butyriboletus persolidus is a pored mushroom belonging to the family Boletaceae. This species was formally described as new to science in 2014. Its cap is light brown and measures 6–14 centimetres (2+1⁄4–5+1⁄2 inches) wide. The stipe grows 5–9 cm (2–3+1⁄2 in) tall and 2.5–5 cm (1–2 in) thick. The mushroom’s flesh is yellow, can stain light blue when cut or touched, and has a mild taste. It produces a brown spore print. Outside of its own genus, it can resemble species from the genus Caloboletus. It occurs on the West Coast, growing under hardwood trees, particularly oak and tanoak, between October and December each year.
