About Buteo refectus Portenko, 1935

The Himalayan buzzard, scientifically named Buteo refectus Portenko, 1935, is a medium to large bird of prey. Some taxonomic classifications treat it as a subspecies of the widely distributed common buzzard, Buteo buteo. This bird is native to the Himalayas in Nepal and India, as well as the adjacent mountain areas of southern China. It was previously known under the scientific name Buteo burmanicus. However, this name had already been used for the migratory mainland Asian subspecies of the eastern buzzard, Buteo japonicus burmanicus, so the Himalayan buzzard was renamed Buteo refectus.
