About Buteo nitidus plagiatus (Schlegel, 1862)
This subspecies is Buteo nitidus plagiatus (Schlegel, 1862), a form of the gray-lined hawk. The gray-lined hawk measures 46–61 cm (18–24 in) in length, with an average weight of 475 g (16.8 oz). Adult gray-lined hawks have a pale gray body, fine white barring on the upper parts, a black tail marked with three white bands, and orange legs. Immature birds have dark brown upperparts, a brown tail with pale bands, white underparts spotted with brown, and a buff-colored head and neck streaked with brown. As a member of the Buteo genus, this species has quite short wings, and its flight is fast and agile.
