About Buteo nitidus (Latham, 1790)

The gray-lined hawk, scientifically named Buteo nitidus (Latham, 1790), measures 46–61 cm (18–24 in) in length, with an average weight of 475 g (16.8 oz). Adult gray-lined hawks have a pale gray body, black tail with three white bands, orange legs, and fine white barring on their upper parts. Immature gray-lined hawks have dark brown upperparts, a pale-banded brown tail, brown-spotted white underparts, and a buff head and neck streaked with brown. This species has quite short wings, and it is a Buteo with fast, agile flight.
