Burchellia bubalina (L.f.) Sims is a species that grows as a small shrub or tree, reaching a maximum height of 8 metres. This species produces red flowers, has grey-green bark and dark green leaves. It grows naturally in forests, on rocky outcrops, and in grasslands. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental tree in frost-free gardens, and has become a weed in some regions. Its bark and roots are used for medicinal purposes.
