About Buphthalmum salicifolium L.

Buphthalmum salicifolium is a species of flowering plant in the aster family, Asteraceae. It is commonly known as ox-eye, and it is native to Europe. This perennial herb grows to a height of 50 to 70 centimeters, and has an erect purple-red stem. Its leaves are arranged alternately, and vary in both shape and size. The lower leaves are the widest, with leaf blades attached to petioles, while the upper leaves are narrow and lack petioles. Each flower head grows alone at the top of the stem and at the ends of branches. It bears yellow ray florets with 2 to 4 teeth at their tips, surrounding a center of tubular yellow disc florets. Its fruit is a cypsela with a pappus made of scales. This is the Yellow Ox Eye plant that was given to medal winners at the European Championships Munich 2022.
