About Bulbophyllum retusiusculum Rchb.f.
Bulbophyllum retusiusculum Rchb.f. is a warm-growing orchid that grows as either a lithophyte or an epiphyte. It produces a creeping, branched rhizome, with falcate pseudobulbs spaced 1 to 3 centimeters apart. The pseudobulbs are slender, suberect to oblique, and narrowly ovate-conical; each pseudobulb bears a single apical, leathery, linear-oblong leaf. Leaves grow erect to suberect, range from semi-flexible to rigid in texture, and measure 1.6 to 8 centimeters long. This orchid flowers in summer and autumn, producing a 14 centimeter long basal inflorescence that can be either ascending or descending. The inflorescence holds 6 to 12 umbel-shaped flowers, accompanied by tubular, narrowly lanceolate bracts. Bulbophyllum retusiusculum is distributed in lowland evergreen forests and primary montane forests, growing at elevations between 500 and 3000 meters. Its native range includes China (Gansu, Guizhou, Hainan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Xizang, Yunnan), Nepal, India (Assam and Sikkim), Bhutan, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
