About Breynia retusa (Dennst.) Alston

Breynia retusa is a plant species that belongs to the family Phyllanthaceae. It grows naturally in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, peninsular Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is also found in Réunion, where it is considered an invasive weed. The synonymization of Sauropus elegantissimus, a taxon recorded as endemic to Malaysia, to Breynia retusa is disputed. Under the name Sauropus elegantissimus, this plant is listed as critically endangered, but it is unclear what impact an updated taxonomy would have on this conservation rating.
