About Brachypteryx montana cruralis (Blyth, 1843)
This subspecies, scientifically named Brachypteryx montana cruralis (Blyth, 1843), is commonly known as the Javan shortwing. The Javan shortwing is a shy, secretive bird that stays close to the ground, deep within dark vegetation. It feeds on a varied diet of small insects, insect larvae, berries, seeds, plant sprouts, and new plant buds. It builds its nest from moss and grass stems, and places the nest inside a dense shrub.
