About Brachypnoea lecontei E.Riley, S.Clark & Seeno, 2003
Brachypnoea lecontei is a species of leaf beetle. Its range covers the Great Plains region of the United States. In Texas, populations of this species have been recorded feeding on Texas live oak, Quercus fusiformis. It was originally described under the name Colaspis humeralis by John Lawrence LeConte in 1858. Prior to 2003, this taxon was treated as a synonym of Brachypnoea puncticollis. Examination of LeConte's type material held at the Museum of Comparative Zoology confirmed that Colaspis humeralis LeConte, 1858 is a valid species belonging to the genus Brachypnoea. The name Colaspis humeralis LeConte, 1858 was already a primary junior homonym of Colaspis humeralis Latreille, 1833 (now classified as Brachypnoea humeralis), so LeConte's original species was renamed Brachypnoea lecontei to honor its first describer.
