About Brachyloma ericoides (Schltdl.) Sond.
Brachyloma ericoides (Schltdl.) Sond. is an erect or spreading shrub that typically reaches a height of 20โ60 cm (7.9โ23.6 in), and its branchlets are covered in soft hairs. Its leaves are linear to narrowly elliptic, measuring 4โ13 mm (0.16โ0.51 in) in length and 0.7โ1.5 mm (0.028โ0.059 in) in width, borne on a petiole 0.7โ1.1 mm (0.028โ0.043 in) long. The leaves are more or less glabrous, and their lower surface is paler than the upper surface. Flowers are borne singly in leaf axils, with broadly egg-shaped to round bracts 6โ17 mm (0.24โ0.67 in) long, and 1.3โ3 mm (0.051โ0.118 in) long bracteoles at the base. The sepals are egg-shaped, 2.8โ4.3 mm (0.11โ0.17 in) long. The petals are pink, sometimes white, joined to form a tube 3.5โ5 mm (0.14โ0.20 in) long, with lobes 2.0โ2.7 mm (0.079โ0.106 in) long. Flowering takes place between April and November, and the fruit is a more or less spherical drupe 3.5โ5 mm (0.14โ0.20 in) long. This species grows in sandy soils or areas with limestone. Brachyloma ericoides subsp. ericoides occurs in western Victoria and south-western South Australia, while the subspecies bicolor is only found on Kangaroo Island.
