About Brachyloma ericoides (Schltdl.) Sond.

Brachyloma ericoides (Schltdl.) Sond. is an erect or spreading shrub that typically reaches a height of 20โ€“60 cm (7.9โ€“23.6 in), and its branchlets are covered in soft hairs. Its leaves are linear to narrowly elliptic, measuring 4โ€“13 mm (0.16โ€“0.51 in) in length and 0.7โ€“1.5 mm (0.028โ€“0.059 in) in width, borne on a petiole 0.7โ€“1.1 mm (0.028โ€“0.043 in) long. The leaves are more or less glabrous, and their lower surface is paler than the upper surface. Flowers are borne singly in leaf axils, with broadly egg-shaped to round bracts 6โ€“17 mm (0.24โ€“0.67 in) long, and 1.3โ€“3 mm (0.051โ€“0.118 in) long bracteoles at the base. The sepals are egg-shaped, 2.8โ€“4.3 mm (0.11โ€“0.17 in) long. The petals are pink, sometimes white, joined to form a tube 3.5โ€“5 mm (0.14โ€“0.20 in) long, with lobes 2.0โ€“2.7 mm (0.079โ€“0.106 in) long. Flowering takes place between April and November, and the fruit is a more or less spherical drupe 3.5โ€“5 mm (0.14โ€“0.20 in) long. This species grows in sandy soils or areas with limestone. Brachyloma ericoides subsp. ericoides occurs in western Victoria and south-western South Australia, while the subspecies bicolor is only found on Kangaroo Island.
