About Brachydiplax duivenbodei (Brauer, 1866)
Males of Brachydiplax duivenbodei have a colouring typical of their genus: both the thorax and abdomen are a bright powder blue, while females do not have this powdery pruinescence. The labrum of this species ranges from brown to black, which gives it the common name darkmouth, distinguishing it from the similar related species palemouth, Brachydiplax denticauda. This species typically has seven antenodal crossveins on the fore-wing and six antenodal crossveins on the hind-wing. It is a small dragonfly, with a wingspan measuring 40 to 60 millimeters. Even though males are brightly coloured, observers often do not notice them once they land on lily pads or similar surfaces. This species lives in habitats with still or slow-moving water.
