About Bouteloua repens (Kunth) Scribn. & Merr.
Bouteloua repens, commonly called slender grama, is a perennial grass that resembles Bouteloua chondrosioides. Its leaves grow up to 20 cm (7.9 in) tall. Flowers are produced in inflorescences at the tips of culms, arranged in groups of four to twelve. The central lobe of the flower has an extended awn, and the glumes are hairless. The anthers are orange or yellow, and measure 3–5.5 mm (0.12–0.22 in) long. This species does not form rhizomes, and is exceptionally resistant to cattle grazing. Slender grama prefers dry rocky slopes at elevations below 1,500 m (4,900 ft), but it also tolerates most open areas with mixed soil types, and can grow at elevations up to 2,500 m (8,200 ft). It can be found across most of Arizona, and also extends into Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico. It also occurs in the Caribbean, and in Central America ranging south to Colombia and Venezuela.
