Botrylloides violaceus Oka, 1927 is a tunicate. For its morphology, individual zooids are embedded within a transparent tunic. They are connected by a network of blood vessels, which end in small sac-like structures called ampullae at the outer edge of the colony. The overall color of the colony can range from bright orange to reddish, or to dull purple. These tunicates typically have 8 branchial tentacles and 11 rows of stigmata.
