About Borodinia laevigata (Muhl. ex Willd.) P.J.Alexander & Windham

Borodinia laevigata, commonly called smooth rockcress, is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the mustard family. It is native to many regions of the eastern United States and Canada, where it grows in calcareous rocky woods and bluffs. It is moderately common across its native range, but does not occur in the southeastern coastal plain or the far north. This species is a biennial herb that grows from a single stem. It produces flowers in early spring and bears persistent fruit. It can be distinguished from other related species by its auriculate-clasping leaves, short white petals, and glaucous stem. Following genetic analysis, this species was reclassified and moved to the genus Borodinia in 2013.
