About Bombus mexicanus Cresson, 1879

Bombus mexicanus is a species of bumblebee. It is native to Mexico and Central America. This bumblebee lives in moist mountain forests, lowland tropical forests, and plantations. It is most commonly found at elevations between 400 and 1000 meters. It acts as a pollinator for guava and coffee plants. This species has experienced significant population declines, and its current range makes up less than 17% of its historical range. Threats to the survival of Bombus mexicanus include habitat loss caused by agricultural activities, specifically cattle ranching and chemical use. The local native plants that this species relies on have also undergone major population declines.
