About Bombax costatum Pellegr. & Vuillet

Bombax costatum Pellegr. & Vuillet is a tree species that typically grows between 5 and 15 meters tall. This tree flowers during the dry season, before its new leaves emerge. Its natural range is limited to the savanna zones of West Africa, extending from Senegal east to the Central African Republic. It commonly grows on rocky hills or lateritic crusts. In West African cuisine, the calyx of Bombax costatum is used as a base for sauces. Overharvesting of the species' flowering branches has contributed to its population decline.
