About Boloria graeca Staudinger, 1870
The Balkan fritillary, with the scientific name Boloria graeca Staudinger, 1870, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Nymphalidae. It is found in the southern Central Alps and at mid- to high-altitude areas of the Balkans. Its larvae feed on Viola species. The orange upperside of the butterfly's wings has brown basal suffusion marked with various brown markings, submarginal round spots, and lines that form festoons. The hindwing forms an angle at its anterior edge. The underside of the forewings matches the upperside in appearance; the underside of the hindwings has silver patterns, a line of small circular spots, and greenish marbling in female individuals.
