About Boloria frigga (Thunberg, 1791)

Boloria frigga (Thunberg, 1791), described by Seitz as A. frigga Thnbg. (68e). The upper side of the wings is pale reddish yellow. The black markings across the central and marginal wing areas are very straight, and run parallel to the distal margin. The under wing surface has a very distinct appearance: the forewing has a broad cinnamon-colored margin, while the hindwing has very little pattern variation. Only the paler distal margin of the hindwing contrasts to some degree with its cinnamon-colored basal area. The median band of the hindwing, like the surrounding wing surface, is dusted with cinnamon, and is only slightly prominent. The only very noticeable marking is an irregularly rhomboidal pale spot located before the middle of the costa. This species inhabits willow and sphagnum bogs.
