About Boloria freija (Thunberg, 1791)

Scientific name: Boloria freija (Thunberg, 1791), also known by synonyms Argynnis freija Thnbg., lapponica Esp., tullia O., and freya Godt. Specimens are illustrated at plate 68c. The upperside of the wings is almost identical in appearance to that of Boloria dia, and the two species are also the same size. The underside of the hindwing resembles the underside of Boloria chariclea’s hindwing, but is more variegated in patterning, with a distinct silvery white band located between the wing’s central and marginal areas. It has a large rhomboidal silver spot at the center of the costa, and rather long silver spots along the margin.
