About Boiga jaspidea (Duméril, Bibron & Duméril, 1854)
Boiga jaspidea, commonly called the jasper cat snake, has a small, slender body that ranges in color from reddish to chocolate brown. The entire body, except for the yellow ventral scales, is covered in distinct rich black and white speckles. It also has faint black lateral bars, and white spots are present on its ventrolateral area. This species reaches a maximum total length of 1.5 meters (4.9 feet). Its known geographic range includes Indonesia, Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, and southern Vietnam. It inhabits arboreal areas in tropical forests, and can sometimes be found among low-lying shrubs. This elusive snake has been recorded laying up to three eggs in termite nests, and very little additional information is available about its biology and behavior.
