About Bijoaraneus komachi Tanikawa, Yamasaki & Petcharad, 2021
Bijoaraneus komachi is a medium-sized orb-weaver spider that shows sexual dimorphism. Females are larger than males: female body length ranges from 7.70 to 11.60 mm, while male body length measures between 5.60 and 6.50 mm. When the species is alive, its carapace is greenish orange. The dorsal side of the opisthosoma is whitish green with black markings, and the ventral side is green. The legs are greenish orange with dark annulation, and the sternum is green. This species can be distinguished from the closely related species Bijoaraneus mitificus by a set of distinct traits. In female B. komachi, the epigyne has a snowman shape when viewed from the posterior, while the epigyne of B. mitificus has an inverted triangular shape in the same view. In male B. komachi, the median apophysis of the palpal organ is vertically elongated when viewed from the prolateral, and the embolus is straight. This differs from B. mitificus males, which have a horizontally elongated median apophysis and an apically bent embolus. B. komachi has been recorded in Japan (including the islands of Honshu and Kyushu) and Korea. In Japan, specimens have been collected from the prefectures of Ibaraki, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Shizuoka, and Aichi.
