About Bidens discoidea (Torr. & A.Gray) Britton
Bidens discoidea (Torr. & A.Gray) Britton is an annual herbaceous flowering plant. It usually grows to a height between 10 and 180 cm (3.9 and 70.9 in). Its leaves are opposite and compound, and most have petioles. Leaf blades range from lanceolate to ovate in shape, measuring 30 to 100 mm long by 10 to 80 mm wide; the final leaf segment measures 10 to 100 mm long by 5 to 40 mm wide. Each flowering stem usually produces 1 to 3 flower heads. Each flower head holds 10 to 20 orange disk florets and has no ray florets. This species typically flowers from August to November. Bidens discoidea is native to the entire region stretching from the Eastern United States to the South Central United States, as well as parts of Eastern Canada: Ontario, Quebec, and all Maritime Provinces except Prince Edward Island. As noted by Plants of the World Online, the species has been introduced into France. It grows in swamps, ponds, and other wet areas, at elevations ranging from 10 to 300 metres above sea level.
