About Bidens beckii Torr. ex Spreng.

Bidens beckii Torr. ex Spreng. is a perennial herb that can reach up to 200 cm (80 inches) in height. It grows emergent from stagnant or slow-moving water, with finely filiform-dissected leaves that grow submerged. Its stem typically extends 15 cm above the water surface; leaves growing on the aerial portion of the stem are simple, oppositely arranged, lanceolate to ovate, and serrated, and attach directly to the stem with no petiole. In late summer, this species produces numerous yellow flower heads. Each flower head holds 10 to 30 disc florets and 8 ray florets. The flowers are solitary at the end of the stem, and measure 2 to 2.5 cm in diameter. Five to eight hairless bracts grow below each flower, and are approximately half as long as the petals.
