Betula fruticosa Pall. is a plant species that grows up to 3 metres (9.8 ft) in height. It has glabrous branches that are colored either purplish-brown or grayish-black. Its petioles measure 2โ€“10 millimetres (0.079โ€“0.394 in) in length and are hairless, just like its branches. The species' peduncles are typically 2โ€“5 millimetres (0.079โ€“0.197 in) long, and may occasionally reach 10 millimetres (0.39 in) in length. Female individuals of this species have erect, oblong inflorescences. Its bracts are ciliate and 4โ€“7 millimetres (0.16โ€“0.28 in) long, and the species produces elliptic nutlets. Flowers bloom between June and July, and fruits ripen between July and August.
