About Beregama aurea (L.Koch, 1875)
Beregama aurea, a species of Australian huntsman spider, closely resembles Beregama cordata and several other Australian huntsman spiders, especially species in the genus Neosparassus. It is much larger than most Neosparassus spiders. It is known for its large size: adult specimens weigh over 5.5 grams and can reach 15 cm (6 inches) across the forelegs. This size makes B. aurea the largest spider species in Australia, and the second-largest spider species in the world. This spider is mostly found in Far North Queensland, and it is occasionally found as far south as Ballina, New South Wales.
