About Berberis amurensis Rupr.

Berberis amurensis, commonly called Amur barberry, is a shrub species native to Japan, Korea, the Russian Far East, and multiple Chinese regions including Gansu, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Jilin, Liaoning, Nei Mongol, Shaanxi, Shandong and Shanxi. The species takes its name from the Amur River, which forms part of the border between Russia and China. This plant grows at elevations ranging from 1100 to 2900 meters. It is a shrub that can reach up to 350 cm in height, with spines that grow up to 20 mm long on its smaller branches. Its leaves are elliptical, paper-thin in texture, and grow up to 10 cm long. Flowers of this species grow in clusters of up to 25 individual flowers. Its fruits are oblong red berries that measure approximately 10 mm long.
