This subfamily was formerly treated as the separate family Agavaceae. Only one species in the genus Behnia is known to science: Behnia reticulata. This species is a climbing plant native to southern Africa, where it occurs in Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Eswatini.
