About Begonia foliosa Kunth

Begonia foliosa Kunth is a flowering plant species in the family Begoniaceae, native to Colombia and Venezuela. It is a shrub-like begonia that grows up to 1 metre (3.3 ft) tall. It produces succulent, pendent stems that reach 45 centimetres (18 in) long, which are densely covered with glossy, oval green leaves. It also produces panicles of small white flowers. The most commonly cultivated variety is B. foliosa var. miniata, which has pink or red flowers. Since this species cannot tolerate temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), it needs winter protection when grown in temperate regions. The variety B. foliosa var. miniata has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
