About Bavia sexpunctata (Doleschall, 1859)
Bavia sexpunctata (Doleschall, 1859) is a relatively large jumping spider when compared to other members of the Baviini tribe. Females have a total body length between 8.60 and 9.30 mm, while males are slightly smaller, with a recorded body length of 8.55 mm. Carapace length ranges from 3.64 to 4.30 mm for females, and measures 3.64 mm in males. The carapace of this species has a characteristic hexagonal shape and is relatively broad, reaching its widest point at or just behind the posterior lateral eyes, which matches the typical traits of the genus Bavia.
Female Bavia sexpunctata have a dark brown carapace, with black areas surrounding the eyes. The first pair of legs is dark brown, with only the tarsi being light brown, and all other legs are light brown. The abdomen is light brown, marked with numerous small dark brown spots plus three pairs of larger dark brown spots. Males have similar overall coloration, with only slight differences. Their carapace is also dark brown with black surrounding the eyes, while the abdomen is light brown mottled with dark brown and marked with three pairs of pale brown spots.
Bavia sexpunctata has been recorded in Malaysia, Indonesia (including Sumatra), Vietnam, Japan (particularly the Ryukyu Islands), and Australia. Within Japan, the species has been found on Iriomote Island in Okinawa Prefecture.
