About Bartonia paniculata (Michx.) Muhl.
Bartonia paniculata (Michx.) Muhl., commonly called twining screwstem, is a saprophytic annual or biennial species that grows in acidic, sandy-peaty wetlands. Among species in the genus Bartonia, it has the northernmost distribution. It occurs along the Atlantic coastal plain, with a widespread range covering 29 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces, and its range overlaps with that of Bartonia virginica. The subspecies texana, which was previously classified as the separate species Bartonia texana, is found in eastern Texas and northeastern Louisiana.
