About Barleria strigosa Willd.

Barleria strigosa is a plant species that belongs to the family Acanthaceae. It is native to the foothills of the Himalayas, and has been introduced to far northern Queensland, Australia. In Thailand, this species is called Sangkorani (สังกรณี) or Sangkorani trijawa (สังกรณีตรีชวา). This name is taken from Sanjeevani, the legendary flower that appears in the Ramakien, which is the Thai version of the Ramayana epic. The name was chosen because Barleria strigosa can be used as a medicinal herb, just like the legendary flower in the mythology.
