Balsamorhiza serrata, scientifically described as Balsamorhiza serrata A.Nelson & J.F.Macbr., is an herb that grows up to 30 cm (12 inches) tall. This species gets its scientific epithet "serrata" from the toothed edges along its leaves. It produces yellow flower heads, which are typically borne one at a time, and each flower head contains both ray florets and disc florets. This plant is native to the Western United States, including the Great Basin region. Confirmed occurrences have been recorded in Washington, Oregon, northern Nevada, and the Modoc Plateau located in Modoc County, northeastern California. It grows in dry, rocky knolls and on rock outcrops.
