This species is widespread across Mexico, ranging from Chihuahua to Oaxaca, and it also occurs in the southwestern United States, specifically in Arizona, New Mexico, and western Texas. Baccharis pteronioides is a shrub that can reach up to 100 cm (40 inches) in height. It has thick, leathery leaves and produces many small flower heads. Its typical growing habitats are dry woodlands, grasslands, and canyons.
