About Azara serrata Ruiz & Pav.

Azara serrata, commonly called saw-toothed azara, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Salicaceae. This species is endemic to Chile. It is an evergreen shrub that grows to 4 m (13 ft) tall, with glossy serrated leaves. It produces clusters of scented yellow flowers during the summer. When grown in temperate regions, it needs a sheltered growing position. Two varieties of Azara serrata are currently accepted. Azara serrata var. fernandeziana (Gay) Reiche is found in the Juan Fernández Islands, while Azara serrata var. serrata is native to central and southern Chile. This species has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
